Shillong, Feb 28 (UNI) The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is likely to take ''disciplinary action'' against Chief Minister J D Rymbai for indulging in anti-party activities, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Onward L Nongtdu said here today.

Mr Nongtdu said the Congress high command has taken strong exception to Mr Rymbai's refusal to quit the Chief Minister's office.

''The party might even sack or expel him from the party for not complying with the party's directive,'' Mr Nongtdu told UNI.

The AICC would announce their decision on Mr Rymbai tonight or tomorrow, the MPCC President added.

Two days ago, senior AICC leaders Oscar Fernandes and Maj (Retd) Ved Prakash verbally conveyed the party high command's message to Mr Rymbai to quit the office of Chief Minister.

However, Mr Rymbai refused to quit after most of his loyal Congress legislators had requested him not to quit the office, as they wanted to discuss the matter thoroughly.

Meanwhile, Mr Rymbai's close-confidante Prestone Tynsong said that Mr Nongtdu alone cannot expel Mr Rymbai from the party.

''Why only Mr Rymbai? If they expel Mr Rymbai they should also expel all the Congress MLAs,'' Mr Tynsong stated.
