SAD-BJP bags 10 out of 13 seats, leads in 56

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine today bagged 10 out of 13 seats and has established comfortable leads in 56 constituencies as counting progressed of the votes cast in the February 13 Punjab Assembly elections.

The ruling Congress won three seats while it was leading in about 36 constituencies.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal (Lambi) and SAD's Capt Kanwaljit Singh (Banur) were prominent Akali winners. However, SAD suffered setbacks with former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Chief Bibi Jagir Kaur (Bholath) and Kuldeep Singh Wadala (Nakodar) losing to Congress candidates.

Congress candidates Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (Lehragagga), Ripjit Singh Brar (Congress) brother of firebrand Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar (Kot Kapura) and Cooperation Minister Amarjit Singh Samra (Nakodar) were declared winners. Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Sardool Singh, Harnam Das Johar, Ramesh Chandra Dogra and Rakesh Pandey, all ministers lost.

Anil Joshi (BJP), a close confidant of Navjot Singh Sidhu, won from Amritsar (north) Manoranjan Kalia of BJP won from Jalandhar (Central) defeating his nearest rival Tajinder Singh Bittu by a margin of 19,878.

Satpal Gosain (BJP) was declared elected from Ludhiana East assembly constituency of Punjab.
