Power strike throws life out of gear in Bihar
Patna, Feb 27 (UNI) The dawn of the day brought miseries to the people of the state as power supply was snapped from 06:00 hrs following strike of powermen to protest the Bihar government's move to privatise the Bihar State Electricity Board.
People across the state were seen struggling to lead their normal life as without power they were forced to travel a lot for procuring potable water.Office goers and students had to face trouble in attending their work place and institutions respectively.
While the state Assembly was in session, in absence of power the generator was the only solace to carry out the scheduled business in both houses of the state legislatures.
Patna secretariat and other government offices, banks, private offices and institutions were also without power affecting their functioning.Even railway stations, hospitals and airports were without power making the lives of the common man horrible.
Making an statement in state legislative council, Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that government was ready to look into the genuine demands of the power men if they submitted a written memorandum of the their grievances to the government.He said that negotiation with the powermen could not yield results as they were rigid on their stand.
Patna High Court also took strong exception of strike of the powermen throwing lives of the people out of gear and directed office bearers of their unions to explain their position in the court tomorrow.
Meanwhile, state home secreatry Afazal Amanullah appealed to striking powermen to call of their strike and resume their duties in view of hardship faced by the people due to non availability of power.
