Karunanidhi urges PM to take up firing incidents with Lanka

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today expressed concern over the series of firing incidents by the Sri Lankan Navy on innocent fishermen here and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter with the Island government to prevent such attacks.

In a letter to the Prime Minisiter, a copy of which was made available to media here, Mr Karunanidhi said, ''The series of attacks by the Sri Lankan Navy on the innocent fishermen is a matter of grave concern.'' The Chief Minister requested Dr Singh's kind intervention to impress upon the Island nation to instruct the Lankan Navy to desist from opening fire or causing harm to the innocent fishermen, who solely depend on this prefession to earn a livelihood.

''I will be grateful if you can arrange having a necessary urgent action in respect of the above matter,'' he said.
