GOACAN to observe Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight

Panaji, Feb 27 (UNI) The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe a Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight from March one.

It seeks to address the lack of awareness on consumer rights, the complaint procedures and redressal mechanisms available to consumers in Goa.

During the fortnight, GOACAN will join consumer organizations all over the world on World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, to tackle 'unethical drug promotion' and its impact on the health of the consumers.

GOACAN will also intensify the national level crusade against the spread of spurious and adulterated goods, according to its coordinator Ronald martins.

In order to draw public and media attention to consumer issues during the fortnight, various events like such lectures and demonstrations, safety camps, poster exhibitions, surprise visits to pharmacies, super markets and grocery stores to check products and take samples, checking the bus transport service and the implementation of weights and measures rules will take place.

Consumer Forum activists will also organise 'phone in' with the Commercial Tax, Legal Metrology, Food&Drug Administration, Civil Supplies, Transport and other consumer related Departments.

Doubtful Gift schemes and Investment offers, violations of Packaged Commodities Rules and the ISI mark will be highlighted during the fortnight, he added.
