Congress held the highest number of seats in 2002 Assembly Election
Imphal, Feb 27 (UNI) The 2002 Assembly Elections in Manipur saw the Congress Party holding the highest numbers of seats that is 20, followed by the Federal Party of Manipur with 13 seats in the 60-member House.
The Manipur State Congress Party won seven seats, while the CPI got five, NPC three, Manipur People's Party two, Samata Party three, Democratic Revolutionary People's Party two, and MNC one.
O Ibobi Singh of the Congress Party became the Chief Minister of Manipur in 2002 and became the first Chief Minister in the history of Manipur to hold power for a full five-year term.
The Congress and the CPI had formed the Secular Progressive Front government which lasted its full five-year term.
