Congress dominates Malwa, SAD-BJP ahead in Doaba Majha
Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) On the comeback trail in Punjab, the SAD-BJP alliance had bagged 32 and was leading in 32 seats today while Congress won 22 seats and was ahead in 23 constituencies in the assembly elections so far, according to Election office here.
The Congress is dominating the Malwa region where religious Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Baba Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim, had declared support for the ruling party, while the SAD-BJP alliance is ahead in Doaba and Majha belt.
The Congress has won 13 of the 15 declared seats in the Malwa belt comprising mainly of Sangrur, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa districts. Here, SAD-BJP alliance could bag only 2 seats so far with Parminder Singh Dhindsa, son of Akali MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa defeating Mrs Aman Arora of Congress in Sunam and in Joga, Akali leader and sitting MLA Jagdeep Singh Nakai retaining the seat.
