CCB arrests two aides of tainted Bishop

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) The investigative wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested two aides of tainted Bishop Yobu Saravanan and seized over Rs four lakh and four luxury cars from them.

Yobu Saravanan and his friend Rajendran were arrested in December following a series of complaints that the Bishop had cheated more than 300 people, mostly building contractors, in a housing project for the poor through his International Kaloori Mission.

Six luxury cars and property worth Rs 4 crore were seized from the duo.

The CCB team, which took up a detailed probe, arrested yesterday Soundararajan, Manager of the trust run by Yobu Saravanan at his residence in Triplicane area, police said.

Hailing from Tiruchi, Soundararajan was a close friend of the Bishop. Two luxury cars and Rs 2.20 lakh in cash were seized from him.

Based on his confession, the police early today arrested Palravi Sanjeevi alias Perumal, a native of Kovilpatti in Southern Tuticorin district, from a lodge in the upmarket Annanagar area in the city.

The CCB team also seized two luxury cars and Rs 2.50 lakh in cash from him, besides a property document for a K K Nagar house.

The special team has launched a manhunt to nab five other associates of the Bishop.
