Call for abolition of Service Tax
Puducherry, Feb 27 (UNI) Chairman of the Puducherry-based Indian Institute of Community Development (IICD) V A Vasudevaraju today urged the Centre to abolish Service Tax.
In his telegrams to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Mr Vasudevaraju held Service Tax responsible for 'uncontrolled inflation defeating fiscal measures of the government and monetary as well as credit policies adopted by the Reserve Bank of India.' He also suggested reducing Service Tax rates from the present 12 per cent to one per cent if the tax could not be abolished.
The current rate of 12 per cent severely affected the purchasing power of the common man and reducing it to one per cent would help reform the tax system in the country,he contended.
