Badal clan wins assembly polls in Punjab
Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supremo Prakash Singh Badal and five of his close relatives romped home recording impressive wins in the Punjab assembly polls.
Mr Badal himself won from his traditional Lambi segment defeating his cousin Mahesh Inder Singh by a margin of 9070 votes.
In the neighbouring Gidderbaha constituency, the elder Badal's nephew, Manpreet Singh Badal won by a margin of over 9000 votes, to record his fourth consecutive win from this seat.
In Patti, Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, son-in-law of Mr Badal also emerged victorious defeating Harminder Singh Gill (Cong) by over 9000 votes. Adesh Pratap is the grandson of former Punjab chief minister Pratap Singh Kairon.
In Majitha, Bikramjit Singh Majithia, brother-in-law of SAD general secretary and MP Sukhbir Singh Badal recorded an impressive victory defeating his rival Lally Majithia of the Congress by over 23,000 votes. Bikramjit Singh is the grandson of former Union Minister Surjit Singh Majithia, the first Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar.
In Jalandhar Cantt, another Badal relative, Jagbir Singh Brar defeated state minister Gurkanwal Kaur, daughter of former chief minister, late Beant Singh. In Ferozpur Cantt, another member of the Badal clan, Janmeja Singh Sekhon was victorious.
