APCC urges CPM leader to call off hunger strike

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today urged Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state Secretary B V Reghavulu to end his five-day fast since the government had agreed to his demands regarding welfare of SCs and STs in the state.

Addressing mediapersons here, APCC official spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy said the state government was committed to the welfare of SCs and STs and had allocated sufficient funds in 2007-08 budget.

Expressing happiness at Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's decision of constituting SC, ST state Commission, Mr Reddy said the CPM leader should call off his hunger strike and give his suggestions to the government for the welfare of SCs and STs.

Pointing out that the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regime had distributed Rs 39 crore as bank linkage loans to the SC and STs in 2004 while the present government had allocated Rs 80 crore during 2006-07, he said the government was striving towards achieving the goals set by it.
