Amarinder disappointed by results, shall introspect

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) Conceding the Congress defeat in the Punjab Assembly elections, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today said he was a little disappointed by the results.

''We have lost due to some reasons; we will see what the reasons are'', he told reporters here, adding it was time for introspection.

He said he was disappointed at the outcome of the elections although his Government had launched various development programmes in the state. ''I did whatever I could do for Punjab'', he added.

Denying that infighting in the Congress party was the cause of its defeat, Capt Singh said the party had gained in certain constituencies in Malwa belt.

Referring to urban-rural divide in the elections, the Chief Minister said he did not know what it was but added he surely wanted ''urban areas to come back to us''.

To a question, Capt Singh said he would not hesitate to function as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly if Congress President Sonia Gandhi wanted him to play that role. The Congress, he added, would play a constructive role as opposition party.
