Soren referred to RIMS for health check-up

Ranchi, Feb 26 (UNI) Jailed former Coal Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha president Sibu Soren, suffering from various ailments, will undergo angio-cardiography at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences here, doctors attending on him today said.

Civil Surgeon of Dumka district Dr T Hembrom told UNI that a medical team, monitoring Soren's health, had already apprised the jail authorities that a report on this was required for further investigation of Soren's medical status.

The JMM leader, undergoing life term in Delhi's Tihar jail for the murder of his personal assistant Shashinath Jha, was shifted to Dumka last year as his pleaders argued that he had to frequently appear in various local courts in Jharkhand in connection with some other cases pending here.

Dr Hembrom said it was recommended to send him to RIMS for the tests as the district lacked the equipment for such examinations.

Soren had failed to appear before the Jamtara, Dumka and Giridih courts relating to various cases in the past few weeks citing ill health.

Dr Hembrom said, ''the JMM leader was feeling weak for the past few days after he complained of nausea, besides suffering from loose motion yesterday.'' The sources said the JMM leader had heart complications and doctors had advised the angio cardiography test as soon as possible.

Soren was shifted to Dumka jail amid controversy after a Jamtara court ordered to put him at Jamtara jail only.

Last month Soren could not appear in the court as besides other ailments, he had swelling in his legs.

The IG (Prisons), citing rules, ordered to shift Soren to Dumka Central jail, which is his parliamentary constituency.

Among the cases being heard in Jharkhand against Mr Soren are the three-decade-old Chirudih massacre in which 11 people were killed and the Kurku murder case regarding the killing of four persons in Giridih.
