Lucknow, Feb 26 (UNI) The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) today won a trust vote in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly by a voice vote amid empty opposition benches.

The Principal Opposition, BJP, was the only opposition party present in the House. But as soon as Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav rose to read out the motion seeking a one-line trust vote, BJP members -- staging a dharna in the Well of the House -- staged a walkout.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey announced that the ruling party has won the trust vote.

Besides SP legislators and Independent MLAs supporting the ruling dispensation, 17 rebel BJP, BSP and RLD MLAs were also present when Mr Yadav sought the confidence vote. These included 10 from BJP, four from BSP and three from RLD.
