Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Shiksha karmis and contract teachers would benefit by Rs 650 to Rs 1,700 per month as per the provisions of the the Madhya Pradesh Budget for 2007-08, presented in the state Assembly today by Finance Minister Raghavji.

''On the basis of the Dubey Committee Report, the distinction between shiksha karmis and contract teachers is proposed to be done away with and an improved payscale is to be introduced. This will place an estimated additional annual burden of Rs 142 crore on the exchequer,'' the Minister said.

Besides the honorarium for anganwadi workers and female assistants, incentives of Rs 300 and Rs 150 respectively were proposed thereby placing a burden of Rs 31 crore.

''From April 1, government employees' 50 per cent dearness allowance will be merged with basic pay placing a burden of Rs 348 crore. Similarly, dearness relief -- equalling 50 per cent of basic pension and family pension -- will be converted into 'dearness pension' placing a burden of about Rs 70 crore,'' Mr Raghavji added.

Revision of pensions of those who retired before January 1, 1996 is proposed as per the Brahmaswaroop Committee's recommendations.

This would result in a burden of roughly Rs 23 crore.
