New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Luggage rates in ordinary passenger and less popular mail and express trains will be slashed by up to 60 per cent under the Railway Budget for 2007-08.

The Railways has decided to rationalise luggage rates in trains where offers for SLRs have not been received despite calling for open tenders at scheduled rates and where utilisation of capacity is less than 60 per cent.

Under the present luggage rate structure, luggage rates for all trains are 20 per cent higher than the parcel rates applicable for Rajdhani trains.

In fact, the parcel rates for Rajdhani trains are three times the parcel rates for ordinary passenger trains.
