Bihar govt to check illegal sale of Nepali Vansapati

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Bihar government today announced action against officers involved in the illegal transportaion and sale of 'Nepali' Vansapati in the state.

Replying to a starred question of opposition BJP member Bhola Singh, Deputy chief minister Sushil Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, admitted the rampant and illegal sale of Nepali Vanaspati in the market and said the government was mulling action against the guilty officials.

He said the government would soon evolve a uniform tax system to prevent illegal transportation of goods from Nepal to Bihar.

He informed the House that the state had earned revenue worth Rs 3.64 crore from the sale of vanaspati in 2005-06 fiscal, while the revenue increased to Rs 4.28 crores in 2006-07.

He said the number of check posts were being increased to prevent illegal transportation of goods through the borders.

Earlier, Mr Singh drew the attention of the treasury benches towards the smuggling and illegal sale of the Vanaspati and had sought the government's stand over it.

He was joined by LJP member Maheshwar Prasad Singh who stated that the illegal sale of Nepali Vanaspati was affecting the state's economy and its inferior quality was affecting the health of the people.

Later, RJD member Jagdanand Singh asked the government to apprise the House of the actions taken by it to check the illegal sale.
