Ample reasons now for DMK Govt dismissal: Jaya

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) Alleging Tamil Nadu had become a safe haven for extremists, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today said there were ''ample reasons now for the dismissal of the DMK Government.'' ''The DMK Government was dismissed in 1991 for supporting extremism. There are more reasons now to do it...The Centre should intervene and ensure the security of the state,'' she said.

In a strongly-worded statement here, she claimed the law and order situation had deteriorated after the DMK came to power and terrorist and extremist organisations had increased their activities on a large scale.

Tamil Nadu had now been ''pushed towards worst forms of terrorism and extremism,'' she added.

Describing as a 'tip of the iceberg' the recent seizure of a boat laden with arms and ammunition by the Coast Guard and confiscation of other raw materials for explosives, the former chief minister said 'similar illegal activities are going on' in several other places in the state.

She expressed concern over the possibility of support to terrorists to surface in the form of appeals and explanatory pamphlets.

Ms Jayalalithaa also cited news reports that innumerable islets in the Palk Straits on the Indian side, close to Rameswaram, were being utilised by terrorists to hide arms and ammunition.
