Water meters: CPI (ML) asked to help in struggle
Vijayawada, Feb 25 (UNI) The 'Neeti Meetarla Vyathireka Aikya Porata Committee,' a forum spearheading the agitation against installation of water meters for domestic tap connections in the city, decided to seek the assistance of CPI (ML) in the struggle, VMC CPI Floor Leader P Gowtham Reddy said today.
Talking to UNI here, Mr Reddy said the forum had passed a resolution on Thursday last asserting the agitation would continue until Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy gave a categorical assurance the meters would not be fixed.
In this connection, Mr Reddy said, the CPI (ML) will be asked to join the agitation.
The forum and various organisations, including trade unions, today organised 'padayatras' and door-to-door campaign in all divisions of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to mobilise proactive support from individual members of residential associations on the issue.
Freedom Fighter Vemulapalli Vamana Rao who was named the chairman of the committee expressed concern over the likely additional monthly burden of Rs 400 on consumers due to installation of water meters.
