Traffic Police Kashmir books 1544 for violations

Srinagar, Feb 25 (UNI) The Traffic Police, in a special drive to curb traffic violations, has booked 1544 traffic violators during last ten days, an official spokesman said today.

He said an amount of Rs 1.18 lakh was also recovered as fine from the offenders.

He said 209 offenders were booked for not using a seat belt, 115 for driving without license, 47 for dangerous driving, 112 for not having Pollution Under Control Certificate, 175 for overloading in passenger vehicles and 31 for driving without fitness certificate.

Besides, the driving license of 30 offenders were punched and 66 drivers were challaned for not wearing uniform.

The authorities in the Kashmir valley had made it compulsory for the drivers and conductors to wear uniform.

However, almost all the three wheelers are plying without meters, charging the passengers extra money in the valley.
