Senior IIS officer dies of cardiac arrest

Varanasi, Feb 25 (UNI) Amitabh Chakraborty, a senior Indian Information Service Officer, died of massive cardiac arrest on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Campus early this morning.

BHU spokesperson Vishwanath Pandey here said Mr Chakraborty, Registrar of Newspapers of India, suffered a massive cardiac arrest while he was in sleep in his room at the Laxman Das Guest House on the University Campus at 0200 hrs.

He was rushed to the nearby Sir Sunder Lal Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Mr Chakraborty, 59, was in the city to receive an award and had also delivered a lecture at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in BHU yesterday.

His body will be flown to New Delhi by a special flight at 1100 hrs today.
