Senior IIS officer Chakraborty passes away

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Amitabh Chakraborty, a senior Indian Information Service Officer, died of massive cardiac arrest early today.

Mr Chakraborty, 59, Registrar of Newspapers of India, had gone to Varanasi for some official work.

He suffered a heart attack last night. His body is being brought here this afternoon. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

A 1971 batch IIS officer, Mr Chakraborty had worked in various capacities holding senior posts like ADG News and Current Affairs in DD News. He had also worked as Additional Principal Information Officer in the Defence Ministry.

He was also Prasar Bharti's Correspondent in Washington DC.
