Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today sought to clarify the statement made by him on the Cauvery issue vis-a-vis PMK Founder Leader S Ramadoss expressing surprise over certain aspects.

In a release here, Mr Karunanidhi referred to the statement by Dr Ramadoss in which he expressed surprise over the Chief Minister saying that Karnataka had got much less than what it asked for in the final verdict given by the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT).

In this connection, he referred to the speech made by him at Thanjavur yesterday during which he had said while Tamil Nadu said its ayacut area was 29.26 lakh acre, the tribunal fixed it at 24.70 akh acre. There was not much difference between the two.

However, in Karnataka's case, while it demanded 27.28 lakh acre as ayacut, the tribunal permitted only 18.85 lakh acre. Hence, he said Karnataka had got much less than what it asked for. He had only sought to give a comparision by giving the statistics.

Besides, he had even pointed out the positives and negatives for Tamil Nadu in the final verdict about which Dr Ramadoss would know.
