Kohima, Feb 25 (UNI) The capital city will be connected by railway from Dimapur by 2012, Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding M S Sharma has said.

Survey work has already begun for the 72-km stretch of railway line.

Addressing a press conference at Dimapur yesterday, Mr Sharma confirmed that the project has already been sanctioned at Rs eight crore. This, he assured, will add a new look to the Dimapur railway station, the only railhead for Nagaland and Manipur, as well as improving connectivity between the two significant cities in the state.

He also informed that the Railway Board has also approved trains with 24 coaches and subsequently platform extension work has begun in eight major stations between Guwahati and Dimapur at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

At present most trains comprise 18 to 21 coaches and with the introduction these new coaches will ease the passenger congestion.
