Kalam moots Societal Grid for rapid economic development
Belgaum, Karnataka, Feb 25 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today said that knowledge sharing, utilisation and re-use was vital to promote non-linear growth of the Indian economy.
Delivering the sixth annual convocation address at the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) here, he said development of technologies and their convergence had significant influence on the society in terms of knowledge, healthcare, e-governance and economic development.
Seamless connectivity should be the watchword to maximise the synergy between these components and such connectivities would help maximisation of GDP and national productivity.
Hence, there was a need to establish Societal Grids in knowledge, healthcare, e-governance and the PURA, he said.
Such seamless interconnectivity would also help India create the 'World Knowledge Platform' for promoting synergy amongst the partner nations.
''During my visit to Singapore, Philippines and Republic of Korea, I had put forward the concept of 'World Knowledge Platform', which will integrate the core competencies of the partner countries to develop knowledge products. This platform will enable joint design, development, cost effective production and marketing of the knowledge products in various domains based on the core competence of partner nations to international market,'' he said.
Dr Kalam said India was a fine example of forging successful joint ventures between partner countries. ''India and Russia, despite having different cultures, language and design standards, have successfully harnessed the core competencies. The product which has come out is of world class, much ahead of other countries, due to the joint working of best of minds from both countries. This proves that if the core competencies of nations are combined, best of knowledge products can emanate well ahead of time,'' he said.
