Kalam meets ailing Manekshaw in hospital
Coimbatore, Feb 24 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today met former Army Chief and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw at a military hospital in Welington in Nilgiri District and enquired about his health.
Field Marshal Manekshaw,95, was hospitalised a few months ago due to various ailments.
Gen Manekshaw played a major role in the surrender of Pakistan soldiers during the Indo-Pak war in 1971. He was appointed as the Chief of the Army Staff in 1968 and is the first Field Marshal of the Indian army. He was in the firts batch of cadets to pass out of the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun.
