Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu, Feb 25 (UNI) An Indian fisherman was injured when the Sri Lankan Navy opened fire midsea off the Kottaipattinam Coastal Village of the district last evening.

According to state special branch police sources here this morning, a group of fishermen ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat from the village yesterday.

When they were fishing near the Neduntheevu Island, a Lankan Navy boat intercepted them and opened fire injuring A Aruldoss (55) in the leg.

The Navy personnel were also charged with beating up the fishermen before warning them to leave the place immediately.

Aruldoss underwent a surgery at a private hospital where his condition was reported to be stable. He was likely to be shifted to a government hospital later today.
