IITC holds business match-making meet in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) More than 200 traders and businesspersons from across the country and abroad took part in the Business Match-making or buyer-seller meet held for the first time here recently.

The event, which was organised by India International Trade Centre (IITC), was held as part of the on-going Global SMEs Meet.

Talking to UNI, V K Venkatachalam, Secretary General of Small&Medium Business Development Centre of India, said ''Meeting their prospective business partners is not a difficult task for the big companies. The problem is before the SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) that are willing to see their partners but at the same time they can't afford to visit India to do their job. It is why we thought of holding this event.'' ''Keeping in view the success of the event, we have decided to make it an annual phenomena from now on,'' he added.

Though there was representation from developed countries like the USA and the UK in the event, most of the participants had come from smaller countries like Kenya, Afghanistan, Mauritius and other countries seeking their business partners in India.

Sham Mathura of Mauritius, Managing Director and Partner of Business Solutions Professionals, who had put one stall at the venue, said ''We're looking for business partners in fields like accounting package, web designing and web hosting and I am happy to say that we have already held talks with a number of Indian companies evincing their interests in the job here today''.

Another participant of the event, Walid Tamin, who was representing the Government of Afghanistan, said ''We want to tell Indian investors that my country is under the rebuilding process and hence we welcome Indian investors in fields like agriculture, healthcare, construction and medicine''.

He made it clear that except for few pockets in Afghanistan that are trouble-torn, the entire country is a safe place for the Indian industrialists to invest their money there.
