First ever seizure of cocaine in Punjab
Phagwara, Feb 25 (UNI) In the first ever case of its kind, the Punjab Police today seized 1.800 kgs cocaine and arrested four persons, including a woman, in this connection.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here, ASP Sukhchain Singh Gill said cocaine was worth about Rs two crore in the international market and had been purchased in Delhi. The seizure was made from a car on the Phagwara bypass early this morning, he added.
The four occupants of the car, identified as Sudesh Kumari, the main king pin of the gang, Jatinder Pal and Ajay Sharma, both residents of Jalandhar and the driver Ashwani had been arrested under the NDPS Act. Sudesh Kumari runs a petrol pump at Daulatpur in Una district of Himachal Pradesh.
According to Mr Gill, the cocaine had been purchased by Sudesh Kumari from a drug dealer of Delhi, identified as Ashish Dogra. The drug was being transported to Jalandhar from Una for distribution among the drug peddlars in Punjab, he added.
The ASP said further investigations in the case were still on.
