Two LeT militants, two army jawans killed in Rajouri

Jammu, Feb 23 (UNI) Two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and two Army jawans were killed in an encounter at the general area of Thanamandi in Rajouri this morning.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Farooq Khan told UNI that army personnel of 43 Rashtriya Rifles along with state police, acting on a tip-off, cordoned off Raina Mohalla of Thanamandi for search operations.

During the search operation, militants opened fire on them, resulting in the death of a jawan. The army personnel retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, two LeT militants were shot dead and another jawan, Anand Kumar, was killed.

The slain militants have been identified as Abu Umar and Abu Mawai of Pakistani origin.

Police said two AK 47 assault rifles were recovered from the militant's possesion.

Meanwhile, a caller identifying himself as spokesman of al-Mansoorian outfit Amir Mir claimed responsibility of attack on the troops.
