Total lunar eclipse on March 4

Chennai, Feb 24 (UNI) A total eclipse of the moon will occur in the early hours on March 4 from 0300 hrs 0642 hrs IST.

According to information from the Regional Meteorogical Centre today, the eclipse would be visible from the Arctic, Asia, except the eastern part Europe including the British Isles, Africa, South America and the eastern parts of Central and North America.

The beginning and the ending of the total phase of the lunar eclipse besides its partial phase would be visible from all parts of India.

The ending of the partial phase of the eclipse would be visible only from the north, north-west and western part of India.

In the remaining parts of the country, the moon sets before eclipse ends.

The magnitute of the eclipse would be 1.237 (Moon's diameter - 1.0) and the duration of the eclipse 3h 42m, the information further added.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth falls between the Moon and the Sun.
