Srinagar-Jammu highway to remain closed till Feb 26

Srinagar, Feb 24 (UNI) The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, life line to Kashmir, which was closed on February 21 due to landslides and shooting of stones, will remain closed till February 26.

A traffic police official said the decision to close the highway till February 26 has been taken to allow the Border Roads Organisaion (BRO) to repair its damaged portion.

He said efforts to stop landslides and shooting of stones at Penthal had failed so far.

Traffic will be allowed on the highway only after receiving green signal from the BRO, the official said.

However, official sources, keeping in view the intensity of the damage, said it will take more than a week to make the road safe for traffic again.

The highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day today as 30 meters road was totally washed away due to landslides and shooting of stones at Penthal.
