IMA urges JAC

Imphal, Feb 24 (UNI) Indian Medical Association President A Vivekananda has appealed to the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed by the family members of a woman who died on February 19 in RIMS, to call off their strike.

IMA has further urged RIMS doctors to reopen their services, which they closed down after two female doctors were allegly assaulted by the public.

The Joint Action Committee formed by the party of the deceased woman had called a general strike and has also threatened to call a blockade on NH-39 and NH-53 in the state from February 28 next.

The IMA said the people tend to take the law in their own hands without fully ascertaining the situation.

Dr Mohen said the doctors and the teaching staff have decided to close down the casualty of the RIMS and will remain closed till tomorrow.

The RIMS Superintendent said talks were held at Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's chamber last night between RIMS authorities and members of the JAC.

However, the talks failed.
