CPI demands suspension of police officials

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) The State Council of the CPI today demanded the suspension of Anantapur district Superintendent of Police Stephen Ravindra for ''beating agitating students with his boot'' and the two town Sub Inspectors for ''brutally beating'' students, who held a rally demanding Judicial inquiry into the suicide of a girl student allegedly due to ragging.

The State Council meeting was chaired by MLA G Ravindra Kumar and was attended by party central leaders A B Bardan, Shamim Saizi, MP Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy and party state president K Narayana.

The meeting passed resolutions demanding judicial inquiry into the suicide of Afsar Banu a student of Adarsha Nursing College, allegedly due to ragging. The meeting also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against student leaders and treatment to students and leaders of CPI, who were injured in the lathicharge.

The Student organisations AISF, NSUI, SFI and ABVP were jointly agitating against the alleged ragging of the student, who committed suicide.
