Chemical factory reduced to ashes in Bengal
Barrackpore, Feb 24 (UNI) A chemical factory was reduced to ashes when a major fire broke out at Matilal Mallick Lane under Baranagar police station in North 24 Parganas today.
Fire Brigade sources said eight fire tenders fought for hours to put off the blaze.
No casualty was reported as the workers managed to escape the fire.
Almost the entire stock of raw materials and finished paints were gutted.
The cause of the fire and the exact estimate of the damage were yet to be ascertained, sources added.
Some residential complexes adjacent to the factory were partially damaged. Residents expressed resentment against the municipality's granting trade license to such factory in the congested area.
