CBI chief should quit if unaware about Quattrocchi's detention: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) BJP stalwart and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani today sought the removal of CBI Director Vijay Shankar, saying he had forfeited his right to occupy the post by claiming that he had no information about Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi's detention in Argentina.

Reacting to Mr Shankar's statement that he had no knowledge about the fugitive Italian businessman's detention in Argentina on February six, Mr Advani said the Interpol had informed the CBI about the development.

''If he had no knowledge of Quattrocchi's detention, he ceases to have any right to occupy the CBI's top post,'' Mr Advani asserted.

He alleged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had ''hidden'' information about the incident in view of the assembly polls in three states and owed the country an explanation.
