Women enforce 'no booze' norm in Alwar village

Alwar, Feb 23 (UNI) Women of a small village in Rajasthan's Alwar district have brewed a success story by enforcing a 'no boozing' norm in their hamlet.

Women of Tilwad village under Ramgarh division in Alwar district have formed a front which takes actions against tipplers who create a ruckus in the village or beats up family members after consuming liquor.

The front's efforts have paid up handsomely leading to closing down of all liquor shops in the village. The members confront anybody who is found selling or buying booze and gives them a good dressing down.

The front members have beaten up many a village drunkard, who created a nuisance after their pegs each day.

Rampant consumption had became a menace to the extent that no woman or girl could venture out of their houses in the evenings.

Both old and young had fallen prey to liquor and hardly worked to earn a living. The women had to bear the brunt of running the household by working long hours on the fields and house as well.

Tipsy men around the village passed lewd comments on the women and often indulged in quarrels, disturbing the village's harmony.

Fed up with the boozers' attitude, Krishna, Reshma, Ram Bai, Buddho Bai and many others decided to form a front which would fight against the menace.
