Agartala, Feb 23: The Tripura government has expressed concern over the Centre's delay in rehabilitating and providing financial aid to the families, affected by the fencing work, along the Indo- Bangladesh border with this state.

Inaugurating a warehouse at Melaghar in Tripura's west district yesterday, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar expressed unhappiness over the Centre's delay in helping the affected families in the state.

He said about 7,000-8,000 families had been affected due to the fencing work. However, the Centre has not yet taken any step, although numerous discussions had taken place between the state and the Centre in this regard.

The state government had proposed allocation of additional funds to the Centre to provide homes to the affected families under the Indira Awas Yojna.

In this regard, the state government had agreed to spend 25 per cent from state government's fund, Mr Sarkar said, adding that following all these proposals by the state, the government did not get any suitable response from the Union government.

The Chief Minister, however, urged the affected families to be patient so that alternative arrangement could be made for rehabilitation.
