Raids at premises of Mumbai IT Addl Comm, Customs Jt Comm

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The CBI today conducted raids at 30 premises in Mumbai and other cities against two senior officials of the Income Tax and the Customs and Excise departments.

While raids at 20 places were conducted at the premises of Mumbai Additional Commissioner (Income Tax) Ajay Kumar Singh, searches at 10 other places, belonging to Joint Commissioner (Customs and Excise, Mumbai) B P Singh, were continuing since morning, according to the CBI here.

''The raids at the IT Commissioner's premises were in connection with disproportionate assets and the searches at the places of Customs Jt Commissioner were related to the collection of 'hafta' from businessmen in Mumbai.'' B P Singh, presently posted in the Legal Cell here, has been alleged to have amassed crores in 'hafta' from businessmen during his posting at the 'Marine Preventive Wing' in Mumbai along with another Customs official Manoj Srivastava.
