Quattrocchi detained in Argentina, CBI seeks his extradition
New Delhi, Feb 23: Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi has been detained in Argentina, the CBI said today.
Quattrocchi, against whom the Interpol had earlier issued a 'red corner notice', was detained at Iguazu International Airport there.
''He was detained on February 6 in the Argentinian province of Misiones on way to Buenos Aires and taken into preventive custody,'' Interpol, Buenos Aires has informed the CBI.
The CBI has sought Quattrocchi's extradition and posted a request to this effect with the Ministry of External Affairs. Legal formalities as required under the Argentine Extradition Act were being carried out as there was no extradition treaty between India and Argentina, the CBI said, adding that the modalities would be completed within the mandatory 30 days of detention.
Earlier, Argentinian authorities had also informed the Indian Government that the Italian national, accused in CBI Case RC.1(A)/90-ACU.IV/SIG (Bofors Case) and subject of Interpol Red Corner Notice had been detained and taken into preventive custody.
