Oppn walkout over financial irregularities in BMC

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) The opposition Congress members today staged a walkout in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly over alleged financial irregularities of about Rs one crore in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Mr Satyadeo Katare (Cong), who raised the issue during Question Hour, alleged financial irregularities to the tune of Rs one crore had taken place with the creation of new head in the form of BMC Chairman Fund.

Urban Administration Minister Jayant Malaiya denied that financial irregularities had taken place and pointed out that the new head had been created under the rules of the municipal corporation.

He said other municipal corporations could also create such heads on the basis of majority.

The Opposition Congress staged a walkout accusing the government of not providing a satisfactory reply.

During Question Hour, Mr Arif Akeel (Cong) raised the matter of financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 38 lakh in the name of converting illegal colonies into legal colonies.

Mr Malaiya said zonal officer Sharad Chandra Solanki and two clerks Sandhya Kulkarni and Mohammed Nisar had been suspended in the matter concerning zone 11.

A criminal case had also been registered in this regard.

He said records in this regard were found in three sacks.

a Chargesheet was expected to be filed in the court by March after investigation was completed.

Besides, directions had been issued for investigation into all aspects regarding development revenue collected from all zones.
