Nagpur, Feb 23 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here has arrested a Health Officer and a cashier of Nagpur Zilla Parishad (ZP) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a medical officer for releasing his salary and non-practising allowance (NPA).

Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB) Kishore Bele told UNI that cashier Digamber Wankhede was arrested last evening after he accepted the money from Dr Vinod Waghmare, a medical officer posted at the primary health centre in Kanholibara in the district.

ZP Health Officer Dr Arun Amle was arrested late last night after Wankhede informed the police that he had accepted the money on behalf of the officer, Mr Bele said.

While Wankhede was remanded to police custody today, Dr Amle has been admitted to a hospital here after he complained of chest pain, he said.

Wankhede and Dr Amle allegedly asked for the bribe to release Dr Waghmare's NPA for March, April and May 2006, and salary for January 2007. Interestingly, in his complaint, Dr Waghmare claimed he was told that the money was being collected to meet the expenses incurred on 'entertaining guests' during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature held in Nagpur in December last and a visit by the Panchayati Raj Samiti recently, Mr Bele added.
