LS pays tributes to Manvendra Shah,S C Shukla

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI)The Lok Sabha today made obituary references to two of its members who passed away in the intersession.

The obituary references on the opening day of the Budget Session were made by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to sitting member Manvendra Shah and former member Shyama Charan Shukla.

Shah, member of Parliament from Tehri Garhawal in Uttarakhand in the 14th Lok Sabha ,represented the same constituency eight times. An able Parliamentarian, he served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health in the third Lok Sabha. He was actively associated with various socio-religious Trusts and also served as Ambassador to Ireland.

Shukla, 82, was member of the 13th Lok Sabha representing Mahasamund Parliamentary constituency of Chhattisgarh. He was three times Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh and Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from 1967 to 1969. He was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Petroleum.

Paying tributes to Shukla, the Speaker said Shukla as the Chief Minister made a significant contribution to development in agriculture and irrigation.

The Lok Sabha also paid homage by observing silence to those killed in the bomb blasts in Samjhauta Express and to the children who died in the boat tragedy in Kerala. The House was then adjourned for the day.
