Land acquisition completed for Pondy SEZ: Rangasamy
Madurai, Feb 23 (UNI) Work for setting up of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the Union Territory of Puducherry was moving at a fast pace with land acquisition for the project being completed, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said today.
The process of land acquisition for the project has been very smooth he said while addressing mediapersons here, after inaugurating the Rs One crore CT and MRI Scan and Endoscopic Scan Unit at the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre. Other works for the SEZ at Sethuraopet, near Puducherry, has commenced, he added.
While establishing that the setting up of SEZ was witnessing stiff opposition in other states, including neighbouring Tamil Nadu, he said the process has been very smooth in the Union Territory.
Underlining the need for infrastructure development for faster economic growth, he said the new port for Puducherry was necessary.
Responding to a question on the opposition to the project from locals, Mr Rangasamy said it has got the nod of the Centre.
However, it would proceed only after ascertaining the views of the people and getting necessary clearance from the Union Environment and Forest Ministry, he added.
When

about
regional
imbalances
in
the
Union
Territory,
Mr
Rangasamy
said
adequate
financial
allocations
were
being
made
to
ensure
equitable
development
of
all
the
regions.
Programmes
and
specific
projects
were
designed
with
that
objective.
