Govt to study SC verdict on reservation: Kerala CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 23 (UNI) Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government would take steps after studying the Supreme Court verdict quashing the Justice K K Narendran Commission report, which raised the income limit of creamy layer families among reserved categories from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per annum in Kerala.
Mr Achuthanandan said he had not received the judgement details.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan termed the verdict unfortunate and said it would create controversies in the state. He hoped the government would go for an appeal after studying it.
Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy too said he would react only after going through the verdict.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said the Congress wanted to ensure reservation benefits to the backward classes. 'But we don't think there is any need for anxiety over the apex court verdict.' Meanwhile, Justice K K Narendran said the government should think about a new system instead of appealing against the verdict. There was provision to review the report every three years.
