Firm fined Rs 4 lakh in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Commercial Taxes Department has imposed a fine of Rs 4.22 lakh on a firm against illegal tranfer of 'pashmina' from Leh to Srinagar in a bid to evade sales tax.
On a tip-off that M/S Altaf and Brothers had transported 1250 kg of 'pashmina' from Leh to Srinagar through the Indian Airlines, state vigilance organisation officers along with the Sales Tax Department carried out a joint surprise check, Commercial taxes spokesman said.
He said the vigilance organisation referred the matter to the Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes, Srinagar, for appropriate action.
The Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes (Vigilance and Inspection), Kashmir, imposed a fine of Rs 4,22,250 on the firm.
The firm deposited 8.45 lakh, including an equal amount of the fine imposed as security, for under valuation of the material, in the government account of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
