Contempt of court petition against Kumaraswamy rejected

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today rejected a criminal contempt of court petition against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for allegedly committing contempt of the Supreme court and the High Court.

A Division Bench, comprising Mr Justice Gururajan and Mr Justice Anand Byrareddy, dismissed the petition, filed by city Advocate A V Amarnathan.

The petitioner contended that Mr Kumaraswamy and his brother and State Energy Minister H D Revanna had made a scathing attack on the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which was for all purposes functioning as the electricity court. Certain personal comments were made against the Commission Chairman and its members, which amounted to contempt of court.

The court rejected the petitioner's prayer to suo motu initiate contempt proceedings after the Advocate General denied him permission to file the criminal contempt of court petition.
