Chhattisgarh MLAs demand action on newspaper report
Raipur, Feb 23 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey today assured the house that appropriate action will be taken over a local newspaper's report levelling allegations against some legislators.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Mr Bhupesh Baghel and Mr Dharamjit Singh drew the attention of the house towards the newspaper report pointing out that it amounted to breach of privilege not only of the members but also of the house.
''It is a serious matter. Neither there is any proof nor any source has been attributed in the report,'' Legsilative Affairs Minister Ajay Chandrakar said.
Pointing out that the report had lowered the dignity of the house, Mr Chandrakar said it was a serious matter that such reports were being published even after organising a number of seminars and workshops on parliamentary reporting.
He said stern action should be taken against those responsible for it, ''even if they belonged to any pillar of democracy''.
Leader of Opposition Mahendra Karma raised the issue of assault by an engineer on the correspondent of a multi-lingual news channel and demanded action against him.
Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey assured the house that appropriate action will be taken on both the issues.
