Water to be supplied in tankers in Mangalore
Mangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) To cope with the 'water crisis' in the city due to a non-reversible valve burst at the Thumbay reservior pumping station on Tuesday last, the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has made arrangements to supply drinking water using 35 tankers.
Talking to newspersons here today, city Mayor Vijaya Arun said the damaged pumps were expected to be reinstalled after repair by Sunday, restoring normal water supply to the city.
She said Netravathi river water had entered the pump house and submerged all the three 750 HP pumps, totally disrupting water supply. The pumps have been sent to Mysore for repair.
Following the water crisis, all schools and colleges in the city had been declared holiday for three days till Sunday. Several paying guest accommodations and hostels in the city have asked the inmates to return to their towns till the situation returned to normalcy.
All construction activities in the city have been asked to stop their activities. About 90,000 households have started feeling the pinch since last evening as the stored water containers went dry.
