New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Chipmaker VIA Technologies today launched the world's first environment-friendly 'carbon free' personal computers based on its new low-drain C7-D processor.

Now-a-days, most of the households release tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere each year, with this offering, VIA has tried to do its bit to help cut down on energy usage, said VIA Technologies President, International Marketing, Richard Brown.

''By doing this we reduce what is called our carbon footprint, this is basically a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide,'' he said.

With the launch of 'Green Computers' VIA Technologies is positioning itself to be the leading supplier of a new generation of energy-efficient IT kit, including servers, thin clients and mobile devices, such as PC phones.

The firm also plans to extend its green computing initiative to entire carbon-neutral computer systems.
